NARC King of the West Sprints
SCELZI WINS AT SANTA MARIA SPEEDWAY
SANTA MARIA, CA (5/2/26) The NARC King of the West Sprint Car Series made its first of two trips on the 2026 slate to Santa Maria Speedway with 18 cars signed in for the $10,000 to win event.
Chance Grasty set Quick Time in ARP Qualifying with a lap of 11.616 seconds. It was Grasty’s first Quick Time of the season. Making him the 3rd different driver this year to record the fastest lap in ARP Qualifying.
2015 NARC King of the West series champion and current NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws star, Carson Macedo, picked up the win in Kaeding Performance Heat Race 1. Dominic Scelzi picked up his first Heat Race win of the season during BMRS Heat Race 2. Landon Brooks won Hill’s Premium Meats Heat 3, also marking his first Heat Race win of the year.
The three Heat Race winners and fastest transfer cars out of each Heat Race locked into the 6-lap HD Titanium Dash. Chance Grasty led all 6 laps of the HD Titanium Dash, earning himself pole for the A-Main. It was Grasty’s second consecutive HD Titanium Dash win, making him the first driver of the 2026 season with multiple HD Titanium Dash wins!
Grasty would take advantage of his pole starting position and jump out to the early lead and get into lapped traffic by lap 4 of the 30 lap Hoosier Tire A-Main. Grasty would stretch his lead out to over 3 seconds before a yellow on lap 8 for a slowing Burt Foland Jr. On restarts, DJ Netto and Colby Copeland would each slow to stops before a lap was completed and head to the American Rock and Rent Work Area. Chance Grasty battled a nose wing that was collapsing with 20 laps to go as he approached lapped traffic. Dominic Scelzi would take advantage of an ill handling car for Grasty and close the gap on him for the lead. With 9 laps to go, Grasty would dive down to the inside of turn 3, making contact with DJ Netto, and would end up upside down along the fence, ending his heroic run. Dominic Scelzi would inherit the lead. Scelzi would control the race the rest of the way, ending a nearly 2 year winless drought with NARC King of the West. It was his 24th career NARC King of the West victory.
Colby Copeland advanced from 14th to 8th, earning FK Rod Ends Hard Charger award honors.
The NARC King of the West Sprint cars return to action on Saturday May 9th at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA for the Dave Bradway Jr Memorial.
